Nintendo started their presentation with an interesting introduction. A new video for Super Smash Bros. would show Nintendo Presidents – Reggie Fils-Aime and Satoru Iwata pitted against each other in an epic brawl before starting the game.
One new edition shown is the inclusion of Miis in place of your regular Nintendo roster, which was first shown with Reggie and Iwata’s own likenesses engaging in combat. Game Director Masahiro Sakurai explained that he’d actually intended to involve Miis in the Wii’s 2008 title Super Smash Bros. Brawl but decided that this would not suit the characters as they were designed at the time. Now tweaked to include a style more compatible with the SSB series, Miis have been upgraded with weapons, animations and other quirks that make them more of a challenge when going up against the likes of Link and Samus.
Mii classes include a Brawler, Gunner and Swordfighter – each loaded with 12 move options.
Also announced, was that the handheld version of Super Smash Bros. for the 3DS is “fast approaching” and will include a whole mess of mini games that were quickly visited but will be shown in greater detail soon.
