Scott Derrickson has reportedly signed on to direct Marvel’s Doctor Strange.
Variety initially reported the story, claiming the Sinister and Exorcism of Emily Rose helmer had been in talks with Marvel to direct the big-screen debut of the character. That story seemingly became truth not long after when Derrickson himself tweeted that his next movie would be “STRANGE”.

Fans have clamoured for years for Marvel to bring the character to the big-screen, with speculation growing more and more following almost-regular comments from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige that he loved the character and wanted to see him in his own feature film. A name check for Stephen Strange in Captain America: The Winter Soldier earlier this year was seen by many as confirmation that Marvel do in fact plan to introduce the character into their Cinematic Universe.
It was expected that Marvel would formally announce a Doctor Strange movie at Comic-Con next month, though with Derrickson seemingly confirming the news himself, all eyes are on Marvel now to offer the official announcement.
No release date is currently known for the film, though Marvel have previously announced dates of 8 July 2016 and 5 May 2017 for unknown movies. It is extremely likely that Doctor Strange will take one of these to dates.
