Josh Brolin has reportedly signed on as Thanos in Guardians of the Galaxy.
Brolin – who will soon be seen in the Sin City sequel A Dame to Kill For – will voice the character, according to several media outlets. Speculation is that a scene has been written in the Guardians script including Thanos and that is substantial enough for a voice to be required. That voice will be Brolin’s.
Thanos was first seen on-screen in the post-credits sting of The Avengers, teasing a more meaningful role in the sequel Age of Ultron and further. His forthcoming appearance in Guardians is designed to introduce the character ahead of those outings.
No word yet if this means the actor will take on the physical portrayal as well as vocal, nor has there yet been official confirmation from Marvel, but if this report is to be believed, Brolin would certainly fit the bill as a high-calibre actor for such a major role in Marvel’s ongoing Cinematic Universe.
Guardians of the Galaxy is released on July 31, while Avengers: Age of Ultron will release on May 1 2015.
