Age of Ultron casts The Vision? Hobbit star in talks for Ant-Man?

Paul Bettany has reportedly signed on as The Vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Bettany – who is already a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Tony Stark’s AI personal computing system JARVIS – is rumoured to be stepping out of the recording booth and in front of the camera for Joss Whedon’s superhero sequel. In the comics The Vision was originally created by Ultron to take down The Avengers, however he eventually ended up joining the group. No word yet on if Whedon will adhere to the source material for Vision’s part in the movie, or if Bettany will pull double-duty for Age of Ultron as Vision and JARVIS, though with Robert Downey Jr already having signed on for Avengers 2 and 3 it is extremely likely that if Iron Man appears, so will JARVIS.

Avengers: Age of Ultron will be released on May 1 2015.

Evangeline Lilly is in “early talks” to play the female lead in Ant-Man.

The Lost and The Hobbit star is rumoured to be wanted by Marvel for a part in the film which is said to not be a one-off appearance. Speculation is that she would be cast as Janet Van Dyne (The Wasp), though nothing official will be known until Marvel make their announcement.

Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas and Michael Pena have already been confirmed for Edgar Wright’s film, which is due out on July 17 2015.

Bob Iger has revealed that Captain America: The Winter Soldier will lead up to and have repercussions in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The Disney Chairman and CEO told investors earlier this week that the upcoming Cap sequel will “set critical events in motion” that will lead directly into the Avengers sequel. Furthermore, parts of the film’s plot will lead into future episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The Winter Soldier is released in the UK on March 28 and North America on April 4.
