Wonder Woman confirmed and cast for “Batman vs. Superman”

Gal Gadot has been confirmed to play Wonder Woman in Batman vs. Superman.

The casting was confirmed earlier today in a post on DC Comics’ official website, which also carries a quote from director Zack Snyder.

“Wonder Woman is arguably one of the most powerful female characters of all time and a fan favorite in the DC Universe. Not only is Gal an amazing actress, but she also has that magical quality that makes her perfect for the role. We look forward to audiences discovering Gal in the first feature film incarnation of this beloved character.”

Gadot is known for her role as Gisele in the Fast & Furious franchise, and will be the first actress to portray Wonder Woman on the big-screen. The as-yet-untitled Man of Steel sequel – although it is interesting to note that DC’s own website carries the Batman vs. Superman name – has already confirmed Henry Cavill returning as Superman as well as Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane reprising their roles as Lois Lane, Perry White and Martha Kent respectively, plus Ben Affleck donning the cape and cowl as Batman.

I personally find it interesting that considering this film is technically a Man of Steel sequel, with the blockbuster announcement of Affleck as Batman and now Wonder Woman’s big-screen debut confirmed, it is beginning to seem like Superman is slowly getting pushed out of his own film.

“Batman vs. Superman” is due to be released on July 17 2015.
