Sony Bringing Captain Planet to the Big Screen

Don Cheedle Captian Planet Header

Captain Planet and the Planeteers is getting the big-screen treatment.

Sony have greenlit the project, which will see a group of enviromentally-friendly teenagers brandish magic rings bestowed by Earth spirit Gaia. For those that remember, or need educating, the teens in question were Kwame, Wheeler, Linka, Gi and Ma-Ti, and they had rings representing earth, fire, wind, water and heart.

And for those times when they came up against an enemy a little too powerful for them? Well then they put in a call to Captain Planet himself, who flies in to save both the day and the planet.

As far as the villainous enemies our heroes may come up against, you’re looking at names like Blight, Verminous Skumm, Duke Nukem and Looten Plunder.

Mark Gordon – whose previous works include 2012 and Saving Private Ryan – is on board to produce, alongside Don Murphy and Susan Montford
