Apple are rumoured to be holding an event to launch their latest version of the iPad later this month.
Sources “familiar with Apple’s plans” have told AllThingsD that the company will shortly be sending out invitations for a launch event on October 22, where the new iPad will be shown off, as well as giving more of the spotlight to the Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks.
The latest edition of the tablet – the fifth generation – is rumoured to have a new thinner, lighter design, more in keeping with an iPad mini, an improved camera, as well as boasting Apple’s new 64-bit A7 chip. The iPad mini is also expected to get an upgrade, getting retina display and most likely an A7 chip also.
There is also speculation that the new iPads will feature the Touch ID fingerprint scanner recently launched in the new iPhone 5S.
AllThingsD also speculate that the event will either be held at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino, or San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
