Kevin Feige has said that Thanos will not be the main villain in next year’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
Ever since the character first turned and smiled in the post-credits scene in The Avengers, many believed he would be the ensemble group’s main enemy, but that belief was ended when Marvel announced the Avengers sequel’s subtitle as Age of Ultron, and confirmed that character to be the lead villain.
That led people to then speculate that Thanos would instead appear in Guardians as their main foe, but not so, says Feige.
“Ronan The Accuser is very much the main bad guy. And Thanos is lurking above it all. You will learn more about Thanos in Guardians, for sure. Certainly you’ll get more than the one turn around and smirk. You’ll get much more than that!”
Lee Pace – who will next be seen on-screen in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in December – will play Ronan. Guardians of the Galaxy will be released on August 1 2014.
