LG Unveils Quad HD Smartphone Display

LG, always on hand to push display technology to the limit, have announced what is possibly the highest resolution mobile display ever made. The device has a resolution of, wait for it, 2566×1400 on a 5.5 inch panel making it about four times the resolution of a standard HD TV.

This extreme resolution on such a small device results is a pixel density of 538ppi, putting pretty much every top-end smartphone, including Samsung’s flagship S4, to shame. The strangest issue that LG now face is that the resolution is so high that the restrictions in the human eye make it almost impossible to prove the technology better than many 1080p smartphones already in place.

The display itself does have the advantage of being 12% thinner than LG’s current high-end smartphone panels but the real world benefits may be out weighed by the production cost and so this display may never see the mass market.
