Christian Bale Offered $50million to Return as Batman?

An author has claimed that Christian Bale is under pressure to return to the Batman franchise.

Following the Comic-Con announcement of Batman appearing in the Man of Steel sequel alongside Superman, Warner Bros.’ press release confirmed that a new actor would be portraying the Caped Crusader.

However, Latino-Review speculate that there could be as much as $50million on the table for Bale to return as the Dark Knight, while also citing a new unauthorized biography on Bale and his Batman future. Kevin Russel, the book‘s author, claims that the actor is “facing extraordinary pressure to become The Dark Knight once more in the forthcoming Justice League film”, while also comparing the situation to Robert Downey Jr’s role as Iron Man.

“Although Downey has appeared as Tony Stark in four movies in less than a decade, he’s hardly typecast as Iron Man. Downey has balanced his action film escapades with other projects that have harnessed his talents and earned critical acclaim in the process. If Bale follows a similar formula, his box office glory days may not be behind him – a reality that other men who have donned the black cape weren’t so fortunate to experience.”

While Bale has repeatedly confirmed he would not return as Batman, and Warner themselves stated that a new actor would fill the role, the claims made in the new book and the reported $50 million payday do add some weight to the speculation. As Russel states;

“In the end, Christian Bale’s future success as a top Hollywood draw may need Batman every bit as much as the Batman franchise still needs Christian Bale.”

The as-yet-named Man of Steel sequel is due for release Summer 2015.
