Microsoft have lost a court battle over the SkyDrive title.
British satellite company Sky have won a trademark case against the tech company over the name, after the presiding judge ruled that the ‘sky’ part of the name was not essential. Sky also provided evidence that showed some of the general public didn’t understand which company were responsible for what service.
Microsoft plan to appeal the ruling, though it is not yet clear whether they will have to rebrand their service or not. A lot of trademark cases end in the losing side paying fines instead of changing names, and you would imagine that Microsoft would rather pay out than have to risk losing brand recognition across the world.
