No Coulson for Avengers Sequel

Joss Whedon has confirmed that Agent Coulson will not appear in The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The Director – who announced the sequel’s new subtitle at Comic-Con over the weekend – admitted that the story of Coulson coming back from the dead would be too big a plot line to feature in an already-packed sequel.

“He could [come back]. Right now it’s not something I’m pursuing because I have so much going on in Avengers 2. Finding out that Coulson is alive would be an entire B story. And I already have too much movie. That’s better than the other thing.”

Coulson – played by Clark Gregg – will return to the Marvel Universe in ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. later this year.
