Benicio del Toro has signed up to appear in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
The actor – best known for roles in The Usual Suspects, Snatch and Sin City – have signed on for an as-yet-unknown role, report Deadline. The site say he’s “playing a character that is built to be part of future Marvel films, which means he has signed a deal with options that put him into multiple movies”.
Speculation has already started that the mystery role del Toro has signed for is that of Thanos, who has already been confirmed to appear in Guardians and The Avengers 2.
del Toro joins an expanding and impressive cast for Marvel’s intergalactic movie, with Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, John C. Reilly and Glenn Close already confirmed and heavily rumoured to be appearing.
Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled for release on August 1 2014.
