E3: PlayStation Plus required for online play

Sony have confirmed that a PlayStation Plus subscription will be required for online play with the new PS4 console.

The news was announced at the E3 briefing, and was not too surprising considering Microsoft’s similar position with Xbox Live. However, it was also clarified that a PlayStation Plus subscription would not be required to play single-player gamers, or to connect to media services such as Netflix.

Additionally, existing PS3 Plus memberships will transfer over to the new console. The company also announced some titles that would be added to the Instant Game Collection for Plus subscribers; Don’t Starve, Outlast, Secret Ponchos, and DriveClub PS Plus Edition.
