Xbox One not backwards compatible

Xbox One

Microsoft’s new Xbox One console will not play Xbox or Xbox 360 games.

Confirming the news to The Verge, Xbox Live Vice President Marc Whitten explained;

“The system is based on a different core architecture, so back-compat doesn’t really work from that perspective.”

And that is not just restricted to discs, as Xbox Live Arcade games will not work either. Basically, if the game was designed for the Xbox 360, it will not play on the Xbox One. And furthermore, Whitten also confirmed that there are no plans to make those games available to port over to the new console. He did reassure current Xbox owners that they won’t be forgotten though.

“Microsoft does, however, plan to keep selling the Xbox 360 alongside the new console for the foreseeable future. This isn’t about getting rid of the Xbox 360.”
