Dolph Ziggler’s World championship victory had been planned for several weeks, PWInsider is reporting.
It had been suggested that Ziggler’s Money in the Bank cash-in victory over Alberto Del Rio on this past week’s Raw was a last-minute call following the show’s rewrites after The Rock did not appear as scheduled, and the now-infamous reactions of the live crowd in New Jersey.
However this was not the case, says Mike Johnson. Ziggler winning the title was planned several weeks ago, and is actually the reason that he has lost several matches recently. The thinking behind it is that the wrestlers that have beaten Ziggler recently can be marketed as “being able to beat the new champ”, therefore creating more interest in future matches.
Johnson also claims that WWE officials at one point had plans for Jack Swagger to become World champion, but those plans fizzled quickly” after his arrest for a DUI in February.
