Disney have confirmed that production is underway on Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
A press release has been sent out announcing the news, as well as confirming the cast. As previously reported, Robert Redford will indeed appear in the movie, cast as Alexander Pierce. Furthermore, Hayley Atwell and Emily VanCamp have also been confirmed, though the press release currently only lists VanCamp’s character as “Agent 13”. It is widely expected that she will end up being Sharon Carter, daughter of Atwell’s Peggy.
The wording of the release also suggests that Scarlett Johansson will have a major role, while Nick Fury will once again appear. Based on the synopsis in the release, it confirms that Cap will team with Black Widow to “battle a powerful yet shadowy enemy in present-day Washington, D.C”. For those unaware, that “shadowy enemy” is the Winter Soldier himself, Bucky Barnes.
