Coulson’s resurrection in S.H.I.E.L.D. show explained?

***The following article contains a possible spoiler that some readers may prefer to avoid.***

A new report may have given us an explanation for a seemingly-deceased Agent Coulson appearing in the post-Avengers show Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

According to Slash Film sources, Coulson’s death – following being stabbed with spear by Loki – was faked by Nick Fury as a way to inspire the superhero group. The source says;

“In the pilot, it’s revealed Nick Fury faked Agent Coulson’s death on purpose to motivate the Avengers.”

“Some S.H.I.E.L.D. members were in on it, but the Avengers were not. Their security clearance wasn’t high enough.

“Coulson was forced to hold his breath as part of the ruse and that’s a point of contention among his colleagues. After the fact, Fury moved him to a remote location until things died down, and then he was reinserted into duty at the time of the show.”

There is one immediate doubt that comes to mind with this claim. As Loki was definitely not “in on the ruse”, Coulson being stabbed was not part of the plan, so how would he have even survived in the first place?

Still, if this is indeed an explanation for the character’s resurrection, if anyone can make it work, it’s Joss Whedon.
