The Hobbit’s final part delayed

The Hobbit: There and Back Again has had it’s release date pushed back.

The film, originally due for release on July 18 2014, will now hit cinemas on December 17 of that year.

No official reason has been given for the delay, though the speculation is that is to avoid a box office clash with X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is due out on the same day.

The first film in The Hobbit trilogy – An Unexpected Journey – as well as the three Lord of the Rings movies, all had a December release date, so this new release date does have tradition on it’s side.

The second instalment in Peter Jackson’s trilogy, The Desolation of Smaug, is due for release on December 13 2013.
