The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has become only the 15th feature film in history to pass the $1billion mark.
The movie’s recent release in China – which saw it take over $37million in just ten days – helped it pass $700million taken internationally. The $301million it has made in the US bring up the total.
Veronika Kwan Vandenberg, Warner Bros.’ President of International Distribution, is understandable delighted.
“From Berlin to Beijing, it is so gratifying to see how the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has been such an event with audiences around the world. We know that moviegoers everywhere are already excited about the next film, as are we.”
The next film, The Desolation of Smaug, is due for release December 2013.
