Marvel Comics’ upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy comic series will be “tonally similar” to next year’s big-screen blockbuster.
Speaking to MTV, editor Steve Wacker explained that Brian Michael Bendis and Steve McNiven’s ongoing series will be “thematically similar” to the movie, much like the Avengers titles fit in with Joss Whedon’s movie.
“Tonally, Brian is making sure that our book fits in with the movie, the way our Avengers books fit into the Avengers movie.”
“I’m part of the Marvel creative committee, which means I’m part of this brain trust that helps with developing the movies. We see all the outlines and all the drafts of the scripts that come in… and Guardians has been in development, secretly, for a while.
“When I was offered the book, there were a lot of opportunities for me to express ideas that I was expressing in the meeting. My take and the movie are going to be very different things, but thematically, I think they’ll be very similar.”
Guardians of the Galaxy, directed by James Gunn, is scheduled for release on August 14 2014.
