WrestleMania 30 will emanate from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, it has been confirmed.
The event was announced at a press conference attended by WWE chairman Vince McMahon, Executive Vice President of WWE Creative Stephanie McMahon and WWE champion The Rock, amongst others. Speaking about the announcement, Vince said;
“WrestleMania is a celebration; it’s what we do. People from all over the world come to New Orleans and they’re going to celebrate the grandeur, the spectacular nature of WrestleMania … that’s what WrestleMania is, and there’s no town in the world that personifies celebration more than New Orleans.”
Stepping up to the podium moments after her father, Stephanie spoke of what WrestleMania – and the company as a whole – means.
“WWE is all about bringing smiles to people’s faces the world over. And that is what we’re going to do right here in the city of New Orleans, because we are going to have one heck of a party 30 years in the making.”
The Rock, who successfully defended the WWE Championship 24 hours earlier, and who is due to face John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania for the second year running, added;
“The bottom line is, it’s fun. And I am so, so proud to bring WrestleMania to New Orleans.”
The Rock’s appearance seemed to confirm rumours that he has committed to working WrestleMania 30, and rumours are already abound that company officials are working on a Rock vs Brock Lesnar clash for that show.
Fittingly, Vince McMahon ended proceedings with the following statement;
“I believe there’s an expression you use here in New Orleans. I will not attempt to say it in French, but: let the good times roll.”
WrestleMania 30 will take place on Sunday, April 6 2014.
