Rock Band DLC to end in April

Harmonix have announced that they will stop producing DLC for Rock Band as of April 2.

In an announcement posted on the official website’s forums, Manager of Community Development Aaron Trites said that after 275 consecutive weeks and over 4,000 songs, new DLC for the game will no longer be available. The reason given is that Harmonix are working on other titles at the moment – nothing Rock Band-related, he did confirm – and production on the DLC has been scaled back to allow resources to be applied elsewhere.

“We’ve managed to maintain a consistent release schedule for a staggering 275 consecutive weeks, releasing over 4,000 songs for the Rock Band Platform, but in recent months we’ve scaled production down as we’ve transitioned resources onto other projects. With several new titles in development and developers needed to usher these new games along, April 2nd will be the last weekly DLC release for Rock Band.”

John Drake, Harmonix’s Director of Communications and Brand Management, commented on the news via Twitter.

Trites also assured players that while the DLC is ending, the game and it’s servers will continue as normal. He also stated that an “appropriate track for the final release” is planned for April 2.
