Gran Turismo 6 may well be heading for PlayStation 3 later this year.
That is, at least, if SCEE’s Senior Vice President Michael Denny wasn’t pulling our collective legs when he seemingly let the cat out of the bag during an interview with Silicon Republic.
When talking about what the PS3 still has to offer, especially with the PlayStation 4 set to release Holiday 2013, Denny said;
“You look at the games coming out on PlayStation 3 this year…like The Last of Us, Beyond, GT6…”
Slip of the tongue? Maybe. Though it is known that Polyphony Digital started production of the game in 2010, something Sony confirmed when contacted for comment by IGN;
“In 2010, Kazunori Yamauchi confirmed that Polyphony Digital had commenced development for Gran Turismo 6. We look forward to sharing further details on this title in the near future.”
When the production started nearly three years ago, it is unlikely that developer kits for the PS4 were available, thus Polyphony would have built the game for PlayStation 3. IGN also speculate that this could be why Sony are letting Evolution work on upcoming PS4 title DriveClub.
