Star Wars 3D re-releases cancelled

The Star Wars 3D re-releases that are being worked on have reportedly been cancelled.

Deadline are claiming – based on word they have received from one of LucasFilm’s promotional partners – that Disney have made the decision not to re-release the Star Wars prequels in 3D, instead putting all focus on “rebooting the franchise”.

Back in September 2010, LucasFilm announced that the prequels would be getting the 3D makeover. Episode I: The Phantom Menace was released in February 2012, to poor box office takings. Episode II: Attack Of The Clones was to be released on September 20th 2013, while Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith was to come out on October 11 2013. Menace‘s poor takings were attributed to the hardcore fan viewing the re-release as another cash-in from Lucas.

It seems that now Disney have seen some sense and taken a decision that LucasFilm weren’t willing to take.
