Sony stops development of PS2 in Japan

Sony have stopped developing the PlayStation 2 console in Japan.

The manufacturer have announced that they will not provide any more consoles to retailers once existing stock runs out. Launched in 2000, the console sold more than 150 million units during it’s life cycle.

The move has fuelled speculation that Sony are focusing production on the new PS4 console. Development on the PS2 is expected to stop in other territories soon as well.
