This past Monday on Raw, CM Punk unleashed his now-famous pipebomb, criticising WWE’s ‘glass ceiling’ and aiming barbs in the direction of several current and former wrestling stars. Superstar Billy Graham took great exception to Punk’s words, and now a response has come from someone else mentioned in Punk’s promo; Ric Flair.
In what is surely a storyline article, Flair has fired back at CM Punk for his words.
“The fans do matter. When I was performing at any point in time, I performed because I wanted to be the best, No. 1. I wanted fans to walk out that door — whether they liked me or didn’t like me — saying they saw everything they expected to and more….I performed to gain fans’ respect. I think I’ve gained respect because I haven’t always been the most loved guy in the wrestling business. I spent a lot of years being a bad guy.”
“Why would I perform for myself? I couldn’t wait to walk out that door and show people what I had, whether they liked me or not. Like I said, if you like me or don’t like me, learn to love it baby, because it is the best thing going today. And that’s the quote I’ll drop on him [down the line] if I see him. WOO!!!”
It has been rumoured that Ric Flair will appear on this coming Monday’s Raw 20th Anniversary episode and ‘confront’ CM Punk over his words last week. This article seems to lay the groundwork for such an occurence.
