Microsoft have acquired id8 R2 Studios (a home automation company) and are believed to be adding them to their XBox division.
Wall Street Journal have quoted anonymous sources for word that Microsoft has acquired the “small home-entertainment technology start up” [and any and all of its patents related to] “controlling electronic devices”.
R2 Studios are in the business of “distributing and displaying digital media on TVs” and reportedly had shopped around to both Google and Apple before agreeing to sign with Microsoft. Although no financial terms were revealed, R2 Studios founder Blake Krikorian is said to be bringing a small team to Microsoft as part of the deal.
Many are expecting that Microsoft will use R2 Studios to help expand their entertainment available through Xbox and also bring advances to the SmartGlass system.
